Reassuring American Voice
There are several forces working together against America, arguably the last bastion of freedom left in the world, from multiple fronts. America, in the enemy's eyes, is a term idem with truth, Christianity and freedom.
One of these forces is Islam. While I respect all people and believe all religions offer some moral truths that are beneficial, I distrust Islam as an unfortunate false belief in direct opposition to Christianity and one of the forces that oppresses people throughout the world. There is no moderate Islam - just as in Christianity, there are those who follow what the sacred texts say and those who don't. I won't argue that here.
France (where I grew up) and other European countries have been steamrolled by this dark force. With no moral compass, France simply did not have the moral capacity to object to the hostile takeover.
You see, France 'killed' God during the Age of Enlightenment and France is now faced with the consequences. Christians were murdered by King Louis XIV and forced to flee abroad:
When the king and the Jesuits learned that the Protestants had begun again to perform their worship, they broke out into a transport of wrath that was speedily quenched in blood. More arrests, more dragoons, more sentences to the galley, more scaffolds; such were the means by which they sought to crush the “Church of the Desert.” Everywhere in Languedoc and Dauphiné the troops were on the alert for the Reformed. … The Marquis de la Trousse, who commanded in the Cevennes, when he surprised a congregation, made his soldiers fire into it as if it was a covey of game. The Protestants had no arms, and could offer no resistance. They dropped on their knees, and raising their hands to heaven, awaited death. … These atrocities were enacted upon no obscure stage, and in no dark age, but in the brilliant era of Louis XIV. (Wylie, J.A., The History of Protestantism, p 1788-89)Protestanism is also in danger in America as the devil is hunting it down. If Americans are not prepared to defend the Gospel, Islam as a radical idea will take over. The reason we are in Iraq and Afghanistan is to defend freedom which itself is grounded in the truth of Christianity and the image of God. As Vice-President Cheney says, we should have supported the people of Iran, the National Council of Resistance of Iran. We should also stand in strong opposition to the 57 country Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) who wants to pass an international law that would criminalize anyone who speaks out against Islam, thereby criminalizing Christianity.
On another front our freedom of speech is currently being decided by foreign judges as is the case with Paul L. Williams, Joe Sharkey and Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld who are being silenced by foreign courts, impeding on our American sovereignty. England banned Michael Savage, a US radio talk show host, from entering Britain treating him just like a terrorist (Savage is not a Christian from hearing him speak on the radio but it is claimed that he spoke against the Koran, but so what? Was Larry David or the producers of Curb Your Enthusiasm banned from Britain for urinating on Jesus' painting?).
Where is the United States' resolve? Why doesn't America stand for these violations of our freedom of speech? It's not hard to understand why when our own officials are themselves trying to stiffle our own freedoms as when in 2007 a senior advisor to House Speaker Pelosi stated, “conservative radio is a huge threat and political advantage for Republicans and we have had to find a way to limit it.” This is from the same people who criticized the Central Intelligence Agency publicly. The same people who ask us to "flag" dissent during the healthcare debate:
These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov. (emp. mine)
The same people who said "the United States ... does not consider itself a Christian nation..." The same people who are against any restrictions on abortion, including parental notification, informed consent laws and stem cell research but who will fight for gay rights. They might as well get on YouTube on their little white house blog and tear those pages right out of the Bible they don't think are relevant.
But as I wrote before, there are forces that threaten the truth of Christianity in more subtle ways. We are warned about them by James (Jam 1:27; 4:4) when he speaks of the "world," that is: all orderly systems run by fallen human beings headed by Satan in opposition to God. Among them are the public media, the entertainment industry, public schools, secular universities and the political arena in America. When we are asked not to be polluted by the world, it is mainly by their ideas and ways of thinking, not by non-Christian culture.
I don't know about you, but I miss the moral judgment, the clarity and the certainty in the voices of our leaders.
